Update #39: Assessment continues, Kulluk remains stable

Unified Command confirmed the following information today:

  • The Kulluk remains in stable condition and there are no reports of any release. 
  • Assessment of the Kulluk drilling vessel in Kiliuda Bay continues. Divers began assessing the hull yesterday. Teams have completed approximately one-third of the underwater assessment to determine if any damage has occurred. When the assessment report is finalized, further information will be released.
  • Unified Command is working with the Kodiak Crab Alliance Cooperative regarding the upcoming Tanner Crab Fishery anticipated opening Jan. 15, 2013. We are currently working with the Cooperative to put mitigation measures in place that will reduce potential impacts to the fishery. 
  • Unified Command’s priorities continue to be the safety of all personnel and the environment.
